Cox & Rawle Rig Power Gum (Power Gum) – Stretchy Elastic for Adjustable Stop Knots & Secure Rigs

Cox & Rawle Rig Power Gum, often called Power Gum, is a strong, stretchy, rubber-based elastic material used to create secure, adjustable knots in both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Unlike standard monofilament or braided line, rig gum has elastic, rubbery properties that allow knots to grip firmly without damaging your main line.

It is an essential rigging material when you need movable stop knots, delicate line protection, or flexible bait control.

What Is Fishing Rig Gum?

Power gum is a tough, elastic, rubber-like material designed specifically for fishing rigs. Its controlled stretch allows knots to “bite” securely onto monofilament, fluorocarbon, or braid, while remaining adjustable and line-safe.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Secure Grip Without Slippage
When tied correctly, rig gum knots grip your main line firmly and resist movement better than standard mono, even on slick braided lines.

  • Fully Adjustable
Unlike crimps or fixed knots, rig gum stop knots can be slid up or down the line to fine-tune rig depth, float position, or bait placement.

  • Protects Delicate Lines
The soft, elastic material prevents line damage, making it ideal for fine mono, fluorocarbon, and light braid.

  • Stretch & Shock Absorption
The elastic nature helps absorb sudden movement, reducing stress on knots and terminal tackle.

  • Versatile for Freshwater & Sea Fishing
Suitable for float fishing, beach fishing, coarse fishing, and specialist rig setups.

How to Use Fishing Rig Gum

Rig gum is most commonly used to tie stop knots, which are simple, effective, and highly versatile.

1. Stop Knots for Sliding Floats

This is one of the most popular uses of power gum.

How to tie a rig gum stop knot:

  1. Cut a short length of rig gum.

  2. Lay it alongside your main line and form a loop.

  3. Wrap one end of the rig gum around the main line and through the loop 4–5 turns.

  4. Moisten and gently pull both tag ends to tighten.

  5. Trim the tag ends if required.

Why it works:
The knot passes easily through rod rings when casting but stops the float precisely at the chosen depth. The knot can be slid up or down the line for instant depth adjustment.

2. Adjustable Rig & Bait Stops

Rig gum is an excellent alternative to beads or crimps when flexibility is required.

Applications include:

  • Creating adjustable stops for beads, attractors, or hook snoods

  • Holding components in place without permanently fixing them

  • Fine-tuning rig layouts on the bank

Bait Securing Tip:
Leave a long tag end of rig gum and lay it over soft baits such as peeler crab or razor fish, then wrap with bait elastic. This prevents the bait from sliding up the hook or down the snood during powerful casts.

Why Choose Rig Gum?

Fishing rig gum is a small but vital rig-building material that offers control, protection, and adjustability impossible with standard fishing line. Whether you’re float fishing inland or building refined sea rigs, power gum adds versatility and reliability to your setup.
