Cox & Rawle Rig Power Gum
Cox & Rawle Rig Power Gum is a, stretchy, and durable elastic material used in fishing. It is distinct from regular fishing line due to its rubbery and elastic properties, which make it ideal for specific applications secure, adjustable knots are needed.
What is it?
Power gum is a tough, rubber-like material that has a good amount of stretch. It is designed to be tied into knots that "bite" into your main line without causing damage. This is particularly useful when using thin or delicate lines. Its key characteristics include:
* Grip and Security: When tied correctly, a knot made from rig gum grips the main line firmly, preventing slippage. The rubbery texture holds in place better than a knot tied with a standard monofilament line, especially on braided lines.
* Adjustability: Unlike a crimp or a permanently tied knot, a knot made from rig gum can often be moved up and down the line to adjust your rig configuration. This is very useful for changing the depth of a float or the position of a hook length.
Line Protection: Because it's soft and stretchy, a Rig gum knot won't damage the main line, a common risk with other types of stoppers.
How to use it:
Rig gum is primarily used to create a type of knot called a "stop knot." This simple yet effective knot has a wide range of applications in both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Here are the most common ways to use power gum:
1. Stop Knots for Sliding Floats
This is a classic use of power gum. When fishing with a sliding float, you need a way to stop the float at a specific depth. A Rig gum stop knot is perfect for this.
* How to tie it: Cut a short length of rig gum. Lay it alongside your main line and form a loop. Wrap one end of the Cox & Rawle Rig Power Gum through the loop and over the main line 4-5 times. Moisten the knot and pull on the two free ends to tighten it securely.
* How it works: The knot will slide freely through your rod rings but will stop the float when it's reeled in. You can easily slide the knot up or down the line to change your fishing depth.
Rig and Bait Stops
Rig gum is a great alternative to crimps or beads for creating adjustable stops on a rig.
* How to use it: You can tie a Cox & Rawle Rig Power Gum stop knot on a hook snood to hold a bait stop, bead, or attractor in place. Also leave a long tag end place this tag end over soft baits like peeler crab, Razor fish then wrap with bait Elastic, this will stop the bait moving up the line or down the hook when casting.
